Mechanical Design Engineer - Gear Specific
Work Summary

We have an immediate opening for a hands-on design engineer. The ideal candidate will have mechanical component design experience related to mechanical power transmission such as; spur/ helical/ worm gears/splines, shafts and bearings.

Responsibilities:
As a Helac Design Engineer your duties will include:
  • Design of new actuators with components consisting of shafts, gears, housings, mounting structures and seals.
  • Assisting sales and applications engineering with product sizing calculations and product customization
  • Interfacing and communication with the engineering departments of the customer
  • Project management
  • Collaboration with the manufacturing engineering and quality departments
Reuqired Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 4+ years of relevant engineering design experience
  • Gear design experience with parallel axis (spur and helical) gears or splines.
Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Familiarity with spline and gear standards such as ANSI B92.1, DIN 5480, and AGMA 2015.
  • Shaft design experience
  • Experience with worm gear design
  • Selection of rolling element bearings, including ball, needle and tapered roller bearings
  • Familiarity with plain bearings and their design
  • Mechanical design experience of weldments, forgings and castings
  • Stress analysis including both hand calculations and FEA
  • Working knowledge of metallurgy including steel alloys and heat treatments such as; nitriding and induction hardening
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • Proficient in Solidworks
  • Project management experience
  • Familiarity with gear manufacturing methods such as; shaping, hobbing and broaching
  • Sensors and other on-board machine electronics
  • GD& T (ASME Y14.5) and tolerance stack up experience
  • Product testing experience including creation of DVPs and writing of test plans

Material Handler
Work Summary

Performs a variety of tasks involved with the flow of product throughout the shop.

Description of Work Performed:
  • Moves parts and updates the location data
  • Issues kits for production and final assembly
  • Maintains inventory accuracy
  • Transports parts and materials between locations and departments as needed
  • Unloads and unloads parts  and materials for shipping and receiving
  • Dumps chip hoppers, chop barrels, and scrap metals
  • Receives finished goods from production
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Working knowledge of computers and the ability to type 30 words per minute
  • Ability to operate a forklift
  • Routinely lift 50 lbs. 
  • Punctual
  • Ability to work overtime
Position is for 1st  shift 5:15 am to 1:45 pm Monday through Friday

Entry Level Assembler
Work Summary

Performs all phases of assembly include the preparation of components, timing and testing

Description of Work Performed:
  • Uses a variety of hand tools and basic equipment to prepare components for assembly. 
  • Assembles repetitive products by accurately reading and interpreting assembly drawings.
  • Participates in all phases of assembly, including timing and testing
  • Performs functional tests to finished assemblies
Requirements:
  • The ability to read assembly drawings, comprehend and follow simple verbal instructions
  • The ability to add and subtract decimals.
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Materials Manager
Work Summary

Directs and coordinates activities of materials and shipping department to ensure material availability and delivery by controlling movement of materials and maintaining information systems.

Description of Work Performed:
  • Develops and manages programs to ensure material availability and delivery.
  • Controls movement of materials in and out of facilities.
  • Develops programs and policies to reduce waste.
  • Install systems that always add value to the product.
  • Maintains information system for monitoring materials and supplies inventories. Cycle counting program. Tool Crib supply management
  • Identifies material shortages and develops process to mitigate resources.
  • Implements and maintains Kanban systems where required.
  • Works with the Purchasing Department in requisitioning and obtaining materials needed for production.
  • Hire, develop, discipline and terminate employees as required.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Four year degree or equivalent related experience in materials control.  Three to five years of supervisory experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • The ability to read and interpret engineering blue prints and bills of materials.
  • Understand the correct order of machining processes and material flow through the manufacturing cycle.
  • Have a working knowledge of JIT and “Lean Manufacturing”.
  • APCIS certification
  • Working knowledge of MS Office

Buyer II
Work Summary

We have an immediate opening in our Purchasing Department for a Buyer II.

Key job duties/responsibilities of Buyer II:
Performs a variety of mid-level purchasing functions which include the procurement of merchandise or materials used to produce Helac actuators or components by performing the following duties.
  • Sources new suppliers per the project and /or engineering requirements.
  • Prepares Requests for Proposal (RFP), including reviewing proposals and providing a recommendation to the Director of Purchasing.
  • Manages/negotiate difficult customer issues with limited supervision.
  • Monitors and has knowledge of material changes (price/lead time/shortages).
  • Negotiates supplier payment terms and statement of work agreement.
  • Understands material planning including MRP systems.
  • Proficient with problem solving and finding mutually beneficial solutions
  • Working knowledge of Procurement procedures including record keeping and reporting
  • Ability to implement VMI, consignment, and JIT programs.
  • Investigates supplier non-conformance and resolving problems.
  • Monitors supplier financial stability, quality, and delivery.
  • Provides director with material planning data by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.
Education and Experience Skills:
  • A Bachelors degree in Business or other related field, or minimum seven years of Purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Business law, contract negotiations, engineering and manufacturing knowledge and/or experience preferred. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability it make sound decisions that result in improved production and workflow. 
  • Proficiency of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.

Lean Manufacturing Technician
Work Summary

The Lean Manufacturing Technician will provide support to help achieve significant manufacturing improvements to quality, productivity and/or cost.

Responsibilities:
  • Identify, facilitate, prioritize and advocate continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Lead improvement teams I planning and executing Kaizen events and continuous improvement projects.
  • Conduct continual training of Lean concepts to Helac personnel relevant to applicable processes.
  • Develop and share new tools and techniques to further improvements.
  • Use Lean tools such as 5S, Kanban, value stream mapping, visual management, to identify and eliminate waste and other non-value added processes
  • Provide technical expertise for improving existing processes with regard to safety, quality and productivity.
  • Participates in process development projects to ensure processes are designed, developed, and sustained to positively impact process effectiveness and efficiency, in addition to reducing waste.
  • Conduct audits of previously conducted workshops to ensure sustainability.
Requirements:
  • BS in Engineering or equivalent experience (2 to 3 years in a manufacturing environment)
  • Working knowledge of Lean manufacturing, 5S, Total Productive maintenance, Value Stream Mapping and process documentation.
  • Self starter, innovative, excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
  • Hands-on capability to work on projects with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally to all levels and drive change.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Work well in a team environment

CNC Machine Operator - Lathe
Work Summary

1st shift, Mon – Fri 5:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.
2nd shift, Mon – Fri 4:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
Operate Helac machines, ability to make setups on various machines in multiple cells. Experience with Mazak M32 control, Okuma, Fanuc, controls or manual gear cutting is preferred.
Set up on various types of production equipment.
Loads and unloads, deburrs and does all inspection of any run in the cell.
Move offsets and performs editing on the control of most jobs in the cell and blocks through programs.
Checks, oil, coolant, grease and any other light maintenance items needed.
Maintains a clean work area and assists in departmental housekeeping.
Complies with safety procedures and company policies.

CNC Machine Operator - Mills
Work Summary

Operate Helac machines, ability to make setups on various machines in multiple cells. Experience with Mazak Mills a plus for this position. 
 
Description of Work Performed:
  • Set up on various types of production equipment.
  • Loads and unloads, deburrs and does all inspection of any run in the cell.
  • Move offsets and performs editing on the control of most jobs in the cell and blocks through programs.
  • Checks, oil, coolant, grease and any other light maintenance items needed.
  • Maintains a clean work area and assists in departmental housekeeping.
  • Complies with safety procedures and company policies.  

Requirements:
  • Minimum Three years experience as a mill operator, or the equivalent. Ability to demonstrate this knowledge to supervisor
  • Ability to read and comprehend machine coordinates
  • Ability to follow verbal instructions and complete tasks that may be repetitive.
  • Ability to lift 45 lbs. 

Shift:
2nd Shift: Mon to Friday, 4:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
