Mechanical Design Engineer Gear Focus
Work Summary

We have an immediate opening for a hands-on design engineer. The ideal candidate will have mechanical component design experience related to mechanical power transmission such as; spur/ helical/ worm gears/splines, shafts and bearings.

Responsibilities:
  • Design of new actuators with components consisting of shafts, gears, housings, mounting structures and seals.
  • Assisting sales and applications engineering with product sizing calculations and product customization
  • Interfacing and communication with the engineering departments of the customer
  • Project management
  • Collaboration with the manufacturing engineering and quality departments

Required Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 4+ years of relevant engineering design experience
  • Gear design experience with parallel axis (spur and helical) gears or splines.
 
Desired Skills & Experience
  • Familiarity with spline and gear standards such as ANSI B92.1, DIN 5480, and AGMA 2015.
  • Shaft design experience
  • Experience with worm gear design
  • Selection of rolling element bearings, including ball, needle and tapered roller bearings
  • Familiarity with plain bearings and their design
  • Mechanical design experience of weldments, forgings and castings
  • Stress analysis including both hand calculations and FEA
  • Working knowledge of metallurgy including steel alloys and heat treatments such as; nitriding and induction hardening
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License

Test and Validation Engineer
 Work Summary

We have an immediate opening for a hands-on product validation engineer. The ideal candidate will have product testing experience in a field such as; mobile hydraulics, mechanical power transmission, automotive or similar.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Design of tests related to Hydraulic Rotary Actuators for the purpose of product validation
  • Test fixture design using Solidworks
  • Coordinating with Test Lab Technician and physical test set up as required
  • Collaboration with the Design Engineers regarding product performance requirements/specifications
  • Interfacing and communication with the engineering departments of the customer
  • Oversee/coordinate testing performed by 3rd party and customer test facilities

Required Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • 3+ years of relevant test engineering experience
 
Desired Skills & Experience
  • Test design using Design of Experiment (DOE) type methods
  • Labview programming experience
  • Test fixture design experience, preferably with Solidworks
  • Experience using the DVP (or DVP&R) type templates.
  • Experience writing test plans and test reports
  • Design of functional, end of line (production) type testing
  • Familiarity with the APQP process including PPAP submissions

CNC Machine Operator - Lathe
Work Summary

1st shift, Mon – Fri 5:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.
2nd shift, Mon – Fri 4:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
Operate Helac machines, ability to make setups on various machines in multiple cells. Experience with Mazak M32 control, Okuma, Fanuc, controls or manual gear cutting is preferred.
Set up on various types of production equipment.
Loads and unloads, deburrs and does all inspection of any run in the cell.
Move offsets and performs editing on the control of most jobs in the cell and blocks through programs.
Checks, oil, coolant, grease and any other light maintenance items needed.
Maintains a clean work area and assists in departmental housekeeping.
Complies with safety procedures and company policies.

CNC Machine Operator - Mills
Work Summary

Operate Helac machines, ability to make setups on various machines in multiple cells. Experience with Mazak Mills a plus for this position. 
 
Description of Work Performed:
  • Set up on various types of production equipment.

  • Move offsets and performs editing on the control of most jobs in the cell and blocks through programs.
  • Checks, oil, coolant, grease and any other light maintenance items needed.
  • Maintains a clean work area and assists in departmental housekeeping.
  • Complies with safety procedures and company policies.  

Requirements:
  • Minimum Three years experience as a mill operator, or the equivalent. Ability to demonstrate this knowledge to supervisor
  • Ability to read and comprehend machine coordinates
  • Ability to follow verbal instructions and complete tasks that may be repetitive.
  • Ability to lift 45 lbs.

Manufacturing Engineer
Work Summary

In general, a Manufacturing Engineer at Helac works on new and existing products and product changes, equipment/tool selection, fixturing concepts/designs, and validated processing methods to achieve required part and assembly quantity/quality at the minimum cost.  Since Lean manufacturing is practiced broadly at Helac, an ME employs Lean tools daily, focusing on product flow, set-up reduction, and standard work and works closely with a specific production line manager to create a co-ownership relationship and deploy effective improvement.

Description of Work Performed:
  •  Assist in developing plant layout in planning rearrangement of facilities, equipment and operations for better utilization of space & effective product flow.
  • Research and coordinate the financial justification and purchase of new capital equipment.
  •  Work closely with research and development, production, quality assurance and maintenance personnel to prevent problems with equipment, products, and fixtures.
  • Manage engineering change process via determination of necessary changes including; processes, routings, and fixtures.
  • Stay informed concerning new manufacturing technologies and equipment in order to manufacture and reduce cost through process efficiencies and effectiveness.
  • Support all current products and new product introductions.
  • Communicate with necessary departments/disciplines current manufacturing, programming, and tooling capabilities to engineer viable designs and facilitate daily production.
  • Design, develop, test, source, cost-justify various, equipment, tools, and fixtures for recommended manufacturing methods.
  • Design, create drawings, and coordinate fabrication of tools and fixtures.
  • Participate in and/or facilitate various kaizen activities, including shop floor kaizen, 3P, 7-ways, and autonomous maintenance.
  • Use statistical process control philosophy and tools to assess current equipment and processes, create improvement plans, and manage implementation.
  • Troubleshoot machining, welding, and assembly production issues.

Description of Work Performed:
 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering required (5+ years experience in engineering positions preferred) or 10+ years related experience in Manufacturing Engineering and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in milling and turning equipment, technology, tools, fixture, and processes.
  • Experience with Statistical Process Control methodology/tools and practical application in a shop floor environment.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing philosophies and techniques (i.e. quick change over, poka yoke, autonomous maintenance, takt time, etc.)
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities at the same time.
  • Machining experience highly desirable.
  • Proven track record of reducing manufacturing costs.Process-oriented mentality and strong problem solving capabilities using scientific method.
  • Computer literacy: MS Word and Excel; Solidworks.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

Actuator Assembly
Work Summary

2nd shift, Mon – Fri 4:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
Uses a variety of hand tools and basic production equipment to prepare components
for assembly.
Assembles repetitive products.
Assists upper level assemblers in cleaning, organizing and maintaining the work areas
and equipment.




Welder
Work Summary

1st shift, Mon – Fri 5:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.
2nd shift, Mon – Fri 4:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
Operates one or more weld tools, special purpose machines, or industrial robots to weld metal work pieces to specifications on production basis by performing the following duties.
Tacks welds using fixtures.
Welds bosses and housing.
Checks dimensions using measuring devices, i.e., check pins with decimal tape and dial calipers.
